Rabbit in the Moon
Challenge
As part of its mission to use national PBS broadcasts of race-related programs as a springboard for discussions on race issues, the Television Race Initiative asked MKmedia to create a companion Web site to "Rabbit in the Moon," a documentary by Emiko Omori about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, that would engage viewers in dialogue.
Solution
MKmedia created an interactive Web site that invites visitors to explore and experience the emotional and political impact of internment on the Japanese American community. The site combines video, audio, photos and historical facts to evoke the mood of the film. Users are asked to put themselves in the shoes of wartime Japanese Americans who faced tough choices related to being an American citizen. The site encourages users to post responses on the site's message board.
